306 - Rocking chair

Where's Dim Sum? #306 - Rocking chair

Dim Sum almost fell into the water when the world shook. With aftershocks!

I had just taken this photo when my screen shook, because they were restarting the sim. So I quickly took the settings shots with the UI (below) and just barely made it with a couple of seconds remaining.

The shaking (several times) was too distracting and I had to wait until it stopped to take the pictures, so I turned that off after I installed the Firestorm.

The boats were created by Haveit Neox.

Where's Dim Sum? #305 - Do you see the sea deer, dear?

Dim Sum stares and wonders how these silly strange winged creatures expect the big fish to get through those narrow columns.

Incredible imagination and impressive implementation! That's all I can say. All "i" words. :)

The sea deer (with or without bucket), the jumping fish, the bass fish, the big fish head, the pillar cluster were all created by Haveit Neox.

Dim Sum sits and looks around her in awe at the big fishes and strange creatures.

OMG! OMG! OMG! This sim is a feast for the eyes! It is so immersive that it's really like walking into someone's dream world (which is more in line with the SL12B theme "What Dreams May Come").

I was planning to just take one photo of each of the 13 sims, but I changed my mind. Obviously. :) If the sims remain open for a while longer, I'll be taking more photos in this sim.

The Poseidon's Abyss sim was built by Haveit Neox. Shown here is the "Mini Fish City 1".

Dim Sum watches the flying insects around the boat's torch and wonders if she could catch one of them if she pounces on the boat when it gets closer.

I took this image a week ago! But I had been too busy to post it.

This sim's theme is books! I love it! Here's a shot of the "page" that's used as the boat's sail (and the title of this post):

And another spell book page that's used as the roof of one of the stores:

302 - Ichi Flowers

Where's Dim Sum? #302 - Ichi Flowers

Dim Sum watches the giant dragonfly whirr above her. "Yes, that's it.... Come closer...."

I had to derez a lot of things in the far background because of full-bright vendors that ruin the picture. *sigh* I wish there was a setting in the viewer that lets you turn off all full-bright things.

This overexposure effect on only one side was a combination of sun position and SG. Foc. Those dots on the left are actually some full-bright tops over columns in the water.

The flowers were created by Sharni Azalee (The Looking Glass).

Where's Dim Sum? #301 - Merhorsepower night and day

Dim Sum couldn't decide which merhorse to put her money on.

This is another pleasant surprise. I was browsing through windlight and one of them cast a shadow from one of the big buildings nearby. There were a lot of big buildings around this landing spot, so it was bound to happen.

So I just darkened the shadows and arranged the shadow to end between the two merhorses. The green light is a local light from the spheres between the horses' front legs.

The "Sculpture ~ Waterhorse (Hippocampus)" was created by Garvie Garzo (meadowWorks).

windlight: Phototools- Build 002 Light (modified)
water: Default (additional effects caused by prims in the water)

I am responding here to Zippora Zabelin's comment in Flickr about the lighting, because it's a bit too long of an explanation to put in the Flickr comments.

As with most of my images in this series, the lighting is more than just windlight. In fact, the windlight setting doesn't have as much effect as it normally does in most of my images.

In this particular one, local lights and glow are more at play:

1. The lotuses themselves are already bright, although I don't think they cast their own light. I think the remembrance lights on the far wall *do* cast a light, but I could be wrong too.

2. I added glow to make the remembrance lights and the tree lights brighter because they were too far away.

3. Dim Sum is wearing invisible prim lights (same as in another image) to add more light to the middle ground. (It lighted the shrub in the middle ground and the exposed tree roots across the water from it.) It's basically three light prims that are linked together and worn on her spine. They are positioned far away from her body and I adjust the position depending on how I want the scene to be lighted. These worn lights are perfect when the sim doesn't allow rezzing objects. The disadvantage is that, when she moves, so do the lights, so I have to force her into an animation where she doesn't move much.

4. The location is full -- really, really full -- of trees. I didn't think I could get some dappled light (which I love to use) through the leaves, so I was surprised when I got some on the boardwalk; otherwise, it would have just been a plain black swath by the foreground lotus. The trees made the scene a lot darker, so the same windlight would look very different elsewhere. I think all I did with the windlight is move the sun/moon so I could get just the right dappling and just enough light to bring out the fern leaves near the foreground.

Where's Dim Sum? #250 - Adoring an angel

Dim Sum was literally struck dumb by the pretty angel after bumping into her. For a short while, she thought she was seeing doubles and triples, until she realized the angel had multituplets, if there is such a word.

156 - RFL Catfish

Where's Dim Sum? #156 - RFL Catfish

Dim Sum ponders a rhetorical question.... Are catfish the mermaids of cats?

Have you heard? The Relay for Life has raised more than US$2M in the nine years it has been in Second Life!

The sims are gone now, but this was somewhere near the start of the track. I took this after doing two laps. The catfish fountain was created by Anhayla Lycia, and the lotus leaves are by Aki Shichiroji of Organica.

Okay, I have two surprises for you today, my dear readers.

1. This image has a matching mini-videoclip.  There have been times when I'd think, "Oh, I love that movement," but I couldn't capture the movement in a still photograph. So, I think I'll do these mini-vidclips for the more interesting scenes. The music will be very similar though, because I don't have time to look for different public domain music each time. This music (if you could call it that ;) ) was randomly composed using an app called the "Diatonic Composer" from AntiCulture.net.

2. The "Where's Dim Sum?" game is ready for public consumption. Yes, the one in the SL10B celebration! I had to modify the script because LSL wouldn't allow you to apply a texture on a child prim if the texture is not transferrable, and I was trying to figure out the best way to allow the user to modify the settings. The blue-dialog menus are too much like phone menus (unintuitive and long-winded) and a regular HUD would be something you have to look for in your inventory (I have 64k items in my inventory; trust me, looking for a HUD whose name you can't remember is an exercise in futility). The top scorers in SL10B already got their copies. If you are one of my "frequent favers" in Flickr or "frequent plusers" in G+, let me know your SL name and I'll send you a copy.

Dim Sum, the snailherd, is glad that the snails are very willing to get in line to cross the road. Now, if they would only move faster before a race car comes careening around the corner.

I posted this and another in Flicker several days ago (omg, I thought it was only two days ago!), but the days (and nights) just seemed to slip through my fingers with so much going on.

Where's Dim Sum? #154 - Remember luminaria

Dim Sum sits by the bright lanterns and watches the people as they zoom past her, walking, running, biking, skating, skateboarding, from humans to creatures, from huge dragons to tiny fairies,

There's a LOT of beep-beep roadrunners on the RFL track this year! They were literally zoom-zooming! It's way faster than a run, so I figure it must be an AO or a HUD. A few of them bumped me, even though I wasn't sitting on the track, just because they couldn't turn fast enough around the corner.

This caped skateboarder was going at run speed, but she was still too fast for me to get her name. If you know who she is, or if you are she, let me know.

I might try to take one more picture from the RFL track today, if I can catch them before they close down the sims.

123 - Crowned crane

Where's Dim Sum? #123 - Crowned crane

Dim Sum meows at the crowned cranes as they strutted by with a royal air about them.

This was a tricky shoot. I wanted the DOF focus on a crane, so my camera was locked on one of them and then I waited for the right moment. The cranes didn't take a repeatable path, so it pretty much random luck. The windlight is simple to focus on the colors on the crane. I could have made the environment a little whiter, but I didn't want it to be devoid of color either. The cranes were created by Vinnie Baxter (Animania).

No particular focus in this one. I just wanted to capture the ambience. This is still in the Studio Skye parcel.

It's a very busy weekend for me. Actually very busy until Tuesday with deadlines, and working on a couple of projects for the rest of June. But I'll try to do quick snapshots to keep this going, although I might be missing some days.

This is the Studio Skye parcel in the Home & Garden Expo. I love this forest build. The paths fork and twist and turn and go up and down in gentle slopes. You can see many of Alex Bader's sceneries, but they are are so integrated with the rest, that you won't easily recognize them.

I think I'll be in this parcel again tomorrow.
